I may have bruises but I’d been drinking,
Today I can only manage one channel thinking.
Water spills in and fills in the gaps from my memory,
I remember bits but I don’t remember what he said to me,
Maybe he said nothing at all,
Maybe I deserved the fall
When you fall down seven times, you’re meant to stand up eight,
You gotta be quick and stand before it’s too late,
Before someone pushes you down as your halfway there,
Make sure your smile says you never did care.
Onwards and upwards, isn’t that what they say?
Don’t play safe, take the risky pathway.
You must try and try again,
Till you’re stained with life’s pen.
The pen that draws till you don’t draw blood,
Relentless, a bully, till your heart’s last thud.
Last night I drank too much expectation,
No one told me it was poison,
My hangover clearing as I desire more,
There is something out there I’m waiting to explore.
What’s holding me back is where I should be,
It was whispered to me by society.
The door that others left open cannot be closed,
One day I hope that to it, I am exposed.
Mind how you go, coz I won’t be looking back.
Onwards and upwards, time to unpack.
I’ll swim from the shore, who needs to fly.
Stay grounded with the sea, let the birds fill the sky.
